Impact of COVID-19 on Illinois nursing home residents & staff

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, as of May 9, 2020, 1,553 Illinois nursing home residents have died from COVID-19 complications since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. These deaths account for 48 percent of the total COVID-19 fatalities in the state.

More than 11,400 cases of the virus have been reported in long-term care facilities since the pandemic began and more than 50 nursing homes throughout the state have reported 10 or more deaths due to COVID-19 outbreaks.
